The lumier Brothers, The fathers of Cinema
The Lumier Brothers, Auguste and Louis were inventors and pioneers of the Cinema world. They were manufacturers of photographic equipment, creating an early motion picture camera and projector called the Cinematograph. They also made advances in Art and Medicine. Auguste Lumiere, born 19th of October 1862 in France and his brother Louis, born 1954, created the film La Sortie des ouvriers de l’usine Lumière which is considered the first ever motion picture.
The Lumier Brothers, after a number of private screenings unveiled the cinematorgraphe in their first public screening on December 28th 1895 at the grand café on Paris Boulevard de capuchines. They opened cinermatograophe theatres in London, Brussels,Belgium and New York after making more than 40 films that year, mostly scenes of everyday French life but also there first newsreel .
The key innovation at heart of the of the cinematographe was the mechanism through which film was transported through the camera. Two pincer claws inserted into the sprocket holes punched into the celluloid film strip the pins moved the film along and then retracted leaving the film stationary during the exposure. Louis Lumiere designed this process of intermittent movment based on the way in which a sewing machine worked.

Compared with other attempts at producing a movie camera, the Cinématographe was compact and did not rely on electrical power. The Cinématographe could be taken anywhere, either to shoot film or to use as a projector allowing multiple viewers at one time. It was patented in February 1895. The Brothers understanding of technology and skill needed, provided them with an ability to make outstanding advances in cinematography and the photography world.
